STAVEHOUSE® Stavehouse Design Concepts

This 5,400 sq ft Stavebarn, with 9/12 pitched (37 deg) roof framing, was built as an office, work shop and implement shed. The stock Stavehouse wall module was modified to receive 7.5"x8'x12' wall in-fill panels, in conjunction with 12"x12"x12' recycled fir wall posts, all red-oxide finished before fitting. The wall timbers & the loft and entry roof trusses were framed using typical Stavehouse utility techniques, including hidden Stavebolts and other hardware. The R-20 in-fill panels were fabricated using grooved fir plywood on the external surfacing. These in-fill units were left inside-open and un-insulated until all wiring was complete. Grooved cladding was also used within the office confines, while less costly OSB was used in shop and machinery areas. 6.5" x 4' x 10' SIP's were used to provide an insulated (10' span) structural floor & ceiling over the office. SIP roofing panels were also used over the timber trussing above the loft to permit use as heated living space. The non-timbered ends of the roof structure were fabricated by Kent Truss, a local truss manufacturer. These trusses were set up on a temporary wall plate at grade level and assembled to the fully waterproofed stage before hoisting. |
